For Immediate Release
November 18, 2020
The Saskatchewan REALTORS® Association (SRA) announced today that effective immediately, all open
houses organized by Saskatchewan REALTORS® across the province are paused until the New Year.
Saskatchewan REALTORS® take the safety of Saskatchewan people seriously. We have shown
leadership in the past, and we continue to take a lead to minimize the risk of transmission so that the
government allows real estate to remain an essential service.
“We were the first province to pause open houses in March before the government placed the province
on lockdown,” said SRA CEO Jason Yochim. “We expected all members across the province to wear
masks when meeting with clients before the government’s mask mandate was expanded beyond
Prince Albert, Regina, and Saskatoon. And effective immediately, we are placing a pause on open
houses to do our part to prevent the further spread of COVID.”
As a profession, Saskatchewan REALTORS® work hard to protect the public. Members have access to
COVID-19 Buyer Clients waivers to aid in contact tracing and screening for the virus, touch points will be
minimized by allowing only the REALTOR® to touch surfaces in a property, virtual showings via
Facebook and Instagram are utilized along with 3D tours wherever possible, sanitization is required and
members have been asked to limit the number of visitors to a home, should a showing be required, to
two people.
“The real estate profession has done well to date monitoring each other and making sure that they are
following health guidelines to keep themselves and the public safe,” said Yochim. “And we have a well documented
complaint process to ensure that REALTORS® continue to act in an ethical and
responsible manner.”
The SRA delivers education, technology, and advocacy to over 1400 REALTORS® across Saskatchewan.
Many consumers don’t realize that REALTOR® is more than a job description – it’s a code of ethics,
higher standards and standardized forms, greater education and is a community of professionals and
business owners who work hard to keep Saskatchewan’s economy strong.
